What was it REALLY like to grow up during World War Two? Who the heck are “Geordies”? K.W.A.Y. Radio – Kingsway Dynamic Podcasts – Radio-Plays in the best BBC tradition! A Wartime Childhood is excerpted from the book As Big As The Sky – A Geordie At Bay by James Timmins, available at Amazon.
There are more K.W.A.Y. Radio Podcasts available! (This was just 5 mins from one of them). Join Kingsway founder and ex-patriot Jim Timmins as he recounts a lifetime of adventures As Big As The Sky. From growing up in war-torn Newcastle-on-Tyne, and working all over Great Britain, then plying his trade in West Africa and the United States, nothing keeps this Geordie at bay. “Where ever ye gan yel’ always find a Geordie!” Kingsway just wrapped up production on this book (writing, graphics, publishing) and the companion documentary called My Africa. This big, very graphical book created by Kingsway should be of great interest to anyone enamored with: Geordies, Newcastle Upon Tyne, World War Two, UK, West Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Great Britain, England, Africa.
Kingsway produced several of these audio-only productions, containing narration, music, and sound effects. They range in length from fifteen to forty minutes each, collected onto a two-disc audio-CD set, with titles A Wartime Childhood, Pre-War, Pre-Teen Years, A Wartime Childhood Part Two, Consett Steel Works, and others. The stories were pulled from real first-hand experiences . . from a “Geordie” (denizen of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK) growing up during World War II, and working around many parts of Britain. The West Africa experience (Nigeria and Ghana) was detailed in a documentary elsewhere on this site called My Africa.
